Totally forgot to post yesterday. My bad!
Yesterday was pretty uneventful. It started raining before lunch and pretty much rained until I went to bed. The best thing about yesterday was that my Tica mom gave me a new towel for taking showers! We only get one a week... so it's a pretty exciting thing when we get to trade in the stinky one for a good-smelling one. :) Oh and how random is this? My homework in composition was to write one page about a day in the life of Hillary Clinton. Strange...
In addition to a clean towel, another exciting thing is that my friends and I planned our trip for this weekend! This is the first long weekend we will have, which means that MLSA does not provide an excursion. The seven of us will be going to San Lorenzo for two nights. There we will go ziplining through the rainforest and maybe even repelling down some waterfalls! I am very excited!
Please just let me share my thought process this morning on the bus on the way to school: "Oh cool, there's a seat. I'm glad I don't have to stand today. Wow, American 80s music? This bus is jammin. "Total eclipse of the heaaaaart..." That reminds me, I want to see the movie Eclipse. (New song) "Time after tiiiiime...." Ok bus driver! I see you singing Cyndi Lauper! How funny would it be if everyone on this bus busted out in choreographed dance moves like High School Musical? Um ok... this man's fanny pack is touching me. I don't like this. Oh, here's my stop. Hurry, hurry, get off. Whew. That was awkward."
I had a short conference with my conversation teacher today, and she just wanted to let me know where I stand in regards to class participation since we are halfway through the "semester." (It's hard to believe that I only have 7 days of class left before finals!) First she asked what I thought about the class and how I think I have been doing. I told her that at times I don't feel as confident as I would like because it takes me longer to understand what is said, process it, and respond to it than it does for some of the other students. This is probably because I'm comparing myself to this one boy in my class who is like the LeBron James of Spanish. I don't know why he didn't take a more advanced class. But anyway, Karla (my teacher) said she didn't know why I though that because she thought I was doing a great job of speaking and participating, and that both my presentations so far have been "muy beuno." That made me feel so good! On a scale of 1 (lowest) to 4 (highest), she gave me a 4.
Today MLSA provided another cultural activity for us. We went to the National Theater, which is considered the most important building in the country. Ticos take a lot of pride in it. We learned a lot about the history of the building, but I don't want to bore you with that! :) After we toured the theater, we did a little souvenir shopping at the artisan market. We made it home just in time for dinner!
Thursday = test AND presentation. So I have lots to do!
Chau!
Yes, we missed you yesterday, but I'm glad to read today. It is almost good that you are too busy to write. Have a great weekend and do good on your presentation and test! See you soon!
ReplyDeleteI knew that you would do great in your classes, you always do, but you are a "worry-wart" (as Gran would say!) Oh ye of little faith!
