#1 Good news of the day: I made an A on my first test AND my first presentation! I was supposed to give my second presentation today, but five people didn't get to go because we ran out of time. Now it's hanging over my head until Monday!
I can't believe I forgot to write about this last night, but yesterday at around 10:40 am, I felt my first earthquake! It was the strangest feeling... It kindof freaked me out. I was sitting in a desk on the fourth floor of a building called "Letras," when I felt the floor shaking. It only lasted for about ten seconds, but it definitely made earthquakes more of a reality to me. Before, the word "earthquake" was just a word; something I heard about on the news. But now it's real. This past semester I did a lot of research on the earthquake in Haiti, and now, after feeling a TINY earthquake, I still can't imagine what those people experienced.
On a slightly-less-depressing-but-kindof-scary note, some CRAZY things happened to my friends and me today. I'm actually debating on whether or not I should post this, because I don't want anyone to worry... I'll just give you a rundown in one sentence: First, we received some unwanted attention from a teenage boy outside the window at the restaurant where we were eating lunch, and then at the bus stop, we literally had to run away from a man who was definitely not "all there," after he asked us where we lived and how much money we had. We were right next to the school, so we went inside the fence and didn't leave until he was gone. We also kept our eyes out the entire bus ride home. Don't worry... we have safety in numbers, and we are being smart about everything! Even so, please continue praying for our safety! For this weekend's trip to Tortuga Island, we will be with a big group of people. I have to wake up super early, but I'm excited to see more of Costa Rica! My next post should contain some really cool pictures. :)
Fun fact: Did you know there is only one bowling alley in the entire country of Costa Rica?
You be careful now, you hear? We got this today in an e-mail:
ReplyDelete"Please be aware that if you travel to Guanacaste, Puntarenas, or Jaco you should apply insect repellent diligently over and over to protect yourselves from the dengue, which is strong there at this time and is serious."
Stay safe! Have fun at Tortuga Island.
