Will you take our picture?

I survived my first day of class! Not only did I survive, but I feel like I did very well! I received some encouragement from my mom last night on the phone and gave all my frustrations and insecurities over to the Lord. A peace came over me this morning that I can't really explain. Today was a very good day. Here is what my typical schedule will be for the days I have class:

6:00 Wake up and get ready
7:00 Breakfast
7:20 Leave for school
8:00-10:30 Composition I class
10:40-1:00 Conversation I class
1:00 Lunch
1:30-5:00 Explore with friends!
6:00 Dinner
6:30-10:30 Homework, Facebook, blog, read, etc.
10:30 Sleep!

I really like my composition class. There are about 14 students in the class, and la profesora is awesome. We meet in La Casita, which is an old house owned by UCR. Our first activity today was to use the letters in our name to write words or phrases that describe us, and then share it with the class. Here is what I wrote:

WWW (World Wide Web): Porque uso el Internet cada dia! (Because I use the Internet every day.) --There aren't many Spanish words that start with "w!"
Helado (ice cream): Chocolate es mi favorito tipo de helado. (Chocolate is my favorite type of ice cream.)
Improvisar (to improve): Porque yo quiero improvisar mi Espanol. (Because I want to improve my Spanish.)
Tengo veinteuno anos. (I am 21.)
Necesito cafe cada manano, con azucar! (I need coffee every morning... with sugar!)
Escribo un "blog" sobre mi experiencia en Costa Rica. (I am writing a blog about my experience in Costa Rica.)
Yo tengo muchas cosas para aprender. (I have many things to learn.)

We had to leave La Casita and go to another building called Letras for our next class, Conversation. A few other students and I sat in the room for about twenty minutes waiting on the teacher. Then a lady came in a said that our class was cancelled today because the teacher had called in sick. So Hannah, our new friend Kayla, and I decided to go exploring! We walked around campus, down the main street, and eventually made our way to "The American Mall." We found a place to sit and talk for a while, then headed back to La Casita to meet up with our other friends for lunch. After lunch, we started walking back to La Casita for one of the cultural activities provided by MLSA. On our way, we wanted to stop and take a picture of all the OBU girls in front of the UCR sign, so we asked a Tico who just happened to be walking by. We said in English (because we had asked some other people in Spanish and they answered us in English), "Will you take our picture?" He replied with, "Si, si!" then proceeded to walk over to the sign, turn around, and pose with a huge grin on his face. Hannah said, "No... saca la foto!" (No, YOU take the picture!) We could not help laughing, but it's okay because he was laughing, too. We also laughed for five more minutes after he left. Haha! Our cultural activity today was a bus tour of San Jose, which helped is get a little more acquainted with the city. We wanted to go see a movie since Wednesdays are half price, but we decided to wait for a day when we have more time. We always want to be home before dark. :)

This is where I stand to get ready in the mornings.

I'm officially a student at UCR!

Oh yeah... There was an earthquake here last night! Apparently it happened around midnight, so I was already asleep. And obviously it wasn't a big one because I slept right through it.

Homework time!
