Pura Vida!

Just in case you were wondering what “Pura Vida” means and why I chose it as the title of my blog, today I will enlighten you. Haha. Translated literally it means “pure life,” which refers to the relaxed, easygoing lifestyle that is led by the Ticos (Costa Ricans). Evidently Ticos are known for being very laid-back and being on time is not a major point of concern. In fact, it is said that they are late for almost everything! (The one exception here would probably be a futbol game.) In regards of being "fashionably late," as I like to call it, I will have no problem fitting right in! Haha! Ticos also believe that life is wonderful and everyone should enjoy it. For any Lion King lovers out there, it means the same thing as “hakuna matata!”

When I hear the words "pure life," I think of a life that pleases God, so that is what “pura vida” means to me personally. I also think that God intends for life to be enjoyed, so maybe those Ticos are on to something! Ha! Maybe my “pura vida,” does not line up exactly with the Costa Rican idea, but I guess I will see once I get there. One thing’s for sure… I will not only be representing my family, school, and country, but most importantly I will be representing Jesus Christ! I have already been praying for opportunities to love others and to share my faith. Although this is not a “mission trip,” I still want to be an example for Christ. I would appreciate your prayers as well!

I will be spending the majority of my time in San Jose, which, according to an online distance calculator, is 1765.954 miles from home!

10 days!
